Friendly Fires

Being a bit of a country bumpkin and having bumbled my way through my first 6 months in London, I was still yet to experience my first proper gig. Mike and the guys were shocked by this revelation and made it their personal mission to ensure I got a taste of the gig experience. This happened about a week and a half ago in the form of Friendly Fires at the Brixton Academy. Most of the OINK crew were in attendance and I think it’s fair to say they are an experienced lot when it comes to a gig. Having endured weeks of the standard winding up about being forced into the mosh pit or being made to crowd surf by Tom and Jack, I was a little apprehensive. I needn’t have worried though… it was AMAZING!!!!

Obviously I’m no expert, but from the venue to the volume I thought it was one of the best things I have ever seen! The performance was great, with some dancing carnival girls and some ticker tape thrown in for good measure! There were a couple of sticky moments where some suspect pints were launched over us… but I think that just added to the atmosphere really.

I had goose bumps for about 80% of the gig and am definitely converted! Who knows, maybe the next step will be the mosh pit…

Any recommendations of must see gigs or venues, please let me know!
