An action packed thriller starring Nick Cage and a strong supporting cast, JUSTICE questions the lengths a man will go to seek vengeance and has some unexpected twists.

Our brief was to show the films psychological angle, while giving a hint of danger, threat and action, showing the city setting and all with a strong title treatment. We presented 10 fairly polished ideas to Momentum, which you can see in our ‘latest work’ section, but behind these ideas is a development process that can be intense and time consuming…

Along with the brief we went to a screening of the finished movie and were sent a bunch of stills that had been approved for use in promoting and marketing the film. We immediately liked the image of Nic Cage looking pensive and thoughtful and wanted to show Guy Pearce threatening from the shadows or behind. We wanted the identity of the movie to focus on the main characters in a colour scheme that reflected the grade of the movie.

Initial ideas are often sketched, so we can quickly understand the proportion of the various elements. As you can see the original image of Cage shows him looking at a newspaper, but his head didn’t look quite right and there was not enough of his legs in the shot. We wanted to add a gun, although this was dropped for the final main art image. The background is a montage of several images. So about 9 different images are used to create this one main image. More than a days work!

We also tried and liked the idea of a big but fine title treatment with graphics that drew the eye to the various elements of the imagery. However we like to give our clients a choice so also tried the option of the red ‘cross’ logo which was developed on another design. This was chosen in the end as it added a powerful central focus to the poster.
